Howard has rejoined the board having been one of KWT’s founding Trustees in 2007, and its first Chair. With a long and intimate connection to the Masai Mara, Howard continues to operate his safaris across this ecosystem, as well as maintaining involvement in the evolution of the northern Mara Conservancies where he lives.

Howard has been a strong supporter of wildlife education for young Kenyans, and was a foundational supporter of KWT’s scholarship program.

He has worked to bring donor attention to key wildlife habitats across Kenya, and a keen focus on the carnivores living there. Howard’s wife Dr Stephanie Dloniak, completed her PhD as part of the Mara Hyena Project, and the recognition of the value of science to inform conservation practice has long been core to Howard’s work in this space.

A lifelong runner, Howard co-founded the Ultra MARAthon in 2020 to help bring much needed funds into the Mara Conservancies when tourism plummeted due to the Covid travel restrictions. This run has become an annual event which continues to bring the Mara and wider community together, and celebrates the many Mara rangers who put their lives on the front lines of conservation.
