At Kenya Wildlife Trust, we believe that for conservation to be successful, it is important to empower the local communities who live alongside the wildlife. One tool of empowerment is education.

Through our Conservation Leadership Program, we are empowering youths from wildlife areas to pursue  tertiary education. This way, they are better placed to conserve wildlife in their areas.

What makes the program unique?

The focus – the program focuses on courses related to conservation and community health. These two disciplines empower the scholars to support healthy and thriving ecosystems.

The scope – the scholarship will cover tuition, living expenses plus extra allowances for books and essential expenditure. This ensures that the social-economic status of the beneficiaries does not affect their access to higher education.

Gender balance – we target a ratio of 50:50 for male and female beneficiaries.

The selection – we work directly with local schools and education NGOs to find gifted students, who are potential leaders and changemakers but are clearly without the means to pursue a quality undergraduate education.

Mentorship – we will appoint volunteer mentors from our network for each student to offer useful guidance throughout their course. We will also run regular workshops for the scholars working with strategic partners in areas like university orientation, study skills and workplace preparation, to help ensure scholars complete their courses and are well prepared to pursue livelihood opportunities after graduation.

Our target is to have 30 scholars on the program over the next three years. You too can be part of this exciting phase of empowering the youths in Kenya’s key conservation areas.

A donation of any amount from you today will ensure that we keep the program running and offer the much-needed support to the scholars. Find ways to give below:
